The Class 10 results are out, and we hope you did well! Now, the time has come for you to choose a stream for +2. Your options are simple: You have to choose between taking up Science, Commerce or Humanities (Arts). But, it is the short term and long term consequence of the choice you now make, that makes it so difficult to choose. The choice that you now make can either make or mar your career.

So, which among the three streams should you choose? As it so happens, Science often turns out to be a hot favourite of several students and parents. But, is it really for you?

Sure, they were trying to help! But this is your life, so the choices you make should also begin with YOU. So, probe yourself!

Are you that, slightly eccentric, geeky guy or girl in school who is kind of cool but in an uncanny way? It’s true, students who want to take up Science as a stream after class 10 have a set personality type. Most of them are introverts and believe in contemplation. They like to spend time by themselves, instead of socializing with a lot of people. They are committed; they have concrete career goals and they really know what they want. They are not scared of having to burn the midnight oil. They can take the stress. They are keenly interested in everything science-y, and they don’t mind giving up their play time for fathoming the unfathomable.

Sounds overwhelming? Well, it is you who must choose what you love. And then, you must love what you choose!

A student planning to take up Science should have an analytical bent of mind They must be perpetually inquisitive about things like why the apple fell down on the ground They must naturally take a keen interest in solving problems, unveiling mysteries and deciphering the logic behind all phenomena. They must have an innate ability to draw a connection between the concepts they study and real-life situations. They must have the tenacity to work hard. And, they must be know all about perseverance; Edison failed 999 times before he actually invented the light bulb.

It’s about time. Now that Class 10 results are out, you should start thinking about what next. But, first of all you must start thinking about which stream you should now choose. Take the first step to a bright future right now by choosing a stream that is right for you. The choice that you now will decide how broad or confined your career options will be in the future. So, think twice, and weigh the pros and cons of each stream before you fixate your choice.

Maths, Commerce or Science, what will it be? As it so happens, taking up Commerce can be your ticket open up various prestigious careers options for you. You can become a CA, CEO or CFO, and you can work with MNCs in important positions. You can even run your own business a few years from now. But, is it really for you?

    Is A Career In Humanities/Arts After 10 Really For You?

    Are you plagued by creativity? On some days, you may find it knocking vehemently at your ribs till you vent it out. Now, the questions is, what should a student like you take up as a stream after Class 10? If Science is not your cup of tea, and Commerce is too dull for you, you should seriously consider Humanities/Arts.

    And why should you do that? Maybe because you are genuinely interested in subjects like English, History, Geography, Sociology, Philosophy, Psychology, and Political Science. Or maybe because you have full time hobbies that you want to pursue while keeping up with your school curriculum. Humanities/Arts as a stream is comparatively less tedious than Commerce and Science, and it facilitates overall development in students.

    A lot of people may have a lot of opinion about Humanities/Arts as a stream. Let’s keep them aside for the time being. Sure your parents, relatives, friends, teachers, and other well-wishers were trying to help! But this is your life, so the choices you make should also begin with YOU. So, probe yourself!

    Do you have a keen interest in the subjects that come under this stream? Maybe somewhere there is a discoverer in you who loves to dig into History. Maybe you are an explorer at heart, and like pinning places on the map, and knowing about soil conditions and direction of winds. You could be the most popular kid in class with exceptional skills of communication. And you take keen interest in the psyche of those around you.

    If this is so, you will have a gala time if you take up Humanities/Arts as a stream....

  • A student planning to take up Humanities/Arts should have a creative bent of mind
  • They should be receptive to new thoughts, ideas and perspectives. They should have a seeking spirit
  • A source of good, healthy imagination is always a plus
  • They must be willing to develop their communication skills
  • They should be dedicated to their subjects, and have a knack for theoretical learning
  • If this describes you, then by all means, Humanities/Arts is just the right stream for you.

  • Subject Combinations for Career in Humanities/Arts after Class 10

    1) Every student is required to do assignments set on class as well as any homework that is set for the day. Parents are requested to ensure that homework’s assigned is completed on time.

    a) The first time a student fails to hand his/her homework, his/her failure to do so will be recorded by the subject teacher in the Class file, that is meant for this purpose, which will be kept in the Asst, Headmistress’ office.

    c) In case of a third repetition in a particular subject, a student may be penalised by being barred from club or co-curricular activity for a period of time.

    d) Should a student persist in not submitting work, he/she will be penalised by having 5 marks deducted from the Unit Test score in the relevant subject. Parents will be intimated by letter.

    e) Even after this, if a student fails to submit assignments, 10 marks will be deducted from his/her score at the Terminal Examination and the parents informed accordingly.

    2) All students are required to bring their text and exercise books for their respective subjects every working day, unless otherwise specified.

    a) The first time a student fails to bring either text books or exercise books, the Subject Teacher will record his/her name in a class file, that is meant for this purpose, which will be kept in the Asst. Headmistress’ office.

    b) If this continues for more than 3 times in a particular subject, the Principal shall inform the parents in writing and a copy of the same will be filed in the students file.

    In such case the student may face school sanctions as determined by the authorities which could include supervised study post school hours and being barred from club and co-curricular activities.
